Wow.. those bridge pins are nice! I just wish they made them in the 3 degree taper with the slot. |

Hesh thanks for posting that. I also have the old base and this is a great improvement. As for unslotted bridge pins: they are used by a lot of builders. They cut a slot the bridge instead. Here's a link with some info. http://www.bryankimsey.com/bridges/slotted.htm |

Hesh if you mean do I slot my bridges yes I do. I think a lot if not most builders do. Maybe some of our pro's can chime in here. |

The slotted pins probably came into wide use with production guitars. Mario once told me that taking the time to slot the bridge and set the break angle is one of those things that sets hand builders apart from factories. I tend to agree. |

That new circle cutting jig with micro adjust looks great! I've got one of the old style, and it looks like it could be modified. Need to add a post and screw on the end of the base, and make some index marks after trial runs and measuring. Or just send StewMac $47 + shipping, and sell the old one on eBay. CrowDuck |

The problem with those bridge pins is that once you have them set, all you see is the head. Particularly for the snakewood, there is no figure in the endgrain. That is a lot to pay for dark brown pins. |

Is the drill holder only compatible with Dremel or other different drills can also be in? |

Parames, i'm not sure but i think that Stewart Macdonald built the jig for dremels only unless i would be told otherwise by the professionnals here, let's wait a bit and i'm sure some kind folk will chime in. Welcome here in case i didn't do it already! Serge |

Wow I love the new circle cutter, but I'm a bit bummed because I just bought the old one. ![]() |

Don't you just hate it when you have just bought a new (not even unpacked yet) circle cutter from Stew Mac to replace a bent one and a few weeks later an upgraded one appears!! Particularly when they must have known the new one was on it's way, and didn't even have the old one in stock so I had to wait for it, why couldn't they give me the option. ![]() Very unhappy Stew Mac ex-customer ![]() Colin |

hey Colin, just sell your old one to a student or something, but don`t be publicly dissin stew-mac for improving our tools. sorry, I mean nothing personal here, I respect you and your work, but I would try and think about it before you post negativly on any subject. sure it`s a little unfair, but your comment does way more damage than is nessesary and Stew-mac is or was a sponsor here as far as I know. To the question about other routers fitting the Stew-Mac base - Though it is designed only for a Dremel, I was happy to find that the older base, which I assume has the same hole layout as the new one, perfectly matched 2 threaded bolt holes on the base of a Dewalt laminate trimmer that I already had in my shop. I did drill a 3rd hole in the Stew-Mac base to provide extra security. The hardest part was driving to the hardware store to get some longer metric bolts for the attachment. Very simple and far superior to using a Dremel. The question is whether the slide on the new one will still work with the Dewalt. Looks like it should. Brook |

Matt [/QUOTE] Selling the old one on to someone else here in the UK is not an option and anyway I would feel guilty about moving on a tool to anyone when I know that a far superior one is available. I applaud Stew Mac for the constant improvement to the tools they make for guitar builders, the community would be a much worse place without them. However, I consider I had bad customer service and I am perfectly entitled to say so. I don't see that my comment does Stew Mac any harm, they are not going to have an exodus of customer because of my comment or opinion and, if we are only allowed to ooh and ahh and say how wonderful a service is then this would really become a sterile forum, where all that happens is that we complement each other on nice shiny guitars. Praise where it's due and complaint when it's not whether a sponsor or not, if you don't find that acceptable I'm sorry. Colin Colin |

Colin, I wonder if they would take it back?? I sent a tool back to LMI for a refund once, they had no problem with that. |

You should try tell'in Stewmac your concerns, they may very well see your point and offer an exchange in the interest of customer relations, especially if you were to wear the shipping cost, you can only but ask. Cheers Kim |

I believe they would exchange your tool with no problem. Back when we were posting about the fret saw blades they sent me a new one with no questions asked and I am very happy with the replacement blade. Thanks Erick from Stew Mac! |
